Lidl (1930)

In 1930, Lidl was founded as a wholesaler of vegetables and fruits. Today, the Schwarz Group, to which Lidl belongs, is one of the largest companies in the food retail sector in Europe and beyond. Lidl has been active in the Netherlands since 1996, and the first distribution center in the country was built in Heerenveen. From that moment on, Lidl Netherlands experienced rapid growth. On October 23, 1997, Uden and Vriezenveen opened as the first branches. Currently, we have approximately 440 stores and six distribution centers. With an almost 100% brand recognition, Lidl has become an integral part of the Dutch supermarket landscape.

Our business is focused on offering customers, today and in the future, products of the highest quality at the lowest prices and making a sustainable and healthy lifestyle affordable and accessible. We achieve this by carefully selecting products that meet the highest quality standards. Operating in 31 countries allows Lidl to make joint purchases and realize attractive prices. Our efficient logistics system and process-oriented store layout also contribute to keeping prices low.

Lidl makes a sustainable and healthy lifestyle affordable and accessible to everyone. Customers automatically choose a more sustainable product when shopping at Lidl. As a future-proof organization, sustainability is integrated into our operations: we build sustainably, reuse waste streams, and combat food waste. Lidl strives for the best for its customers and the world around it. Therefore, we are committed to increasing positive impact on society and the environment while reducing any negative impact.
